Respondus LockDown Browser with Monitor is an Internet browser that functions as a proctor for tests in Canvas.
LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser is a custom internet browser that locks down the testing environment in Canvas. When students use LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading. Quizzes with LockDown Browser enabled cannot be accessed with standard browsers.
LockDown Browser with Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a webcam feature for LockDown Browser that records students via the webcam on their computer during online quizzes or exams. When this feature is enabled for a quiz, students are required to use a webcam and microphone with LockDown Browser. After the quiz is complete, instructors can view the session recordings in the Respondus LockDown Browser dashboard in Canvas.
Technology Requirements
Mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and iPads are not allowed. A PC or Mac computer with a webcam is required for Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor-enabled quizzes and exams. Chromebooks are not supported or permitted.
Important: Copied courses require instructors to access the LockDown Browser dashboard before exams can be taken by students. Click on the "LockDown Browser" on the course navigation menu to access the dashboard.
