About Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor
Respondus LockDown Browser with Monitor is an Internet browser that functions as a proctor for tests in Canvas.
LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser is a custom internet browser that locks down the testing environment in Canvas. When students use LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading. Quizzes with LockDown Browser enabled cannot be accessed with standard browsers.
LockDown Browser With Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a webcam feature for LockDown Browser that records students via the webcam on their computer during online quizzes or exams. When this feature is enabled for a quiz, students are required to use a webcam and microphone with LockDown Browser. After the quiz is complete, instructors can view the session recordings in the Respondus LockDown Browser dashboard in Canvas.
Important: Copied courses require instructors to access the LockDown Browser dashboard before students take the exams. Select the "LockDown Browser" on the course navigation menu to access the dashboard.
Course Set-Up: Before the exams are given, instructors must access the LockDown Browser link and dashboard on the course navigation.
Request Changes: Respondus exam settings are set at the template level, and requests for setting changes require the Program Director's approval and submission to the helpdesk. Submit a Course Fix Request.
For Instructors
Select "LockDown Browser" on the course navigation menu to access the LockDown Browser Dashboard with tutorial videos, guides, and support resources.
