During your time as a student in the Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APRN) program at West Coast University, you will have the opportunity to participate in On-Site Intensive (OSI) weekends. These intensive workshops bring students and expert faculty together to engage in person in the demonstration and practice of essentials skills and competencies needed by nurse practitioners, as well as clinical evaluations where students perform a demonstration of these skills. Some of the activities of the OSI include:
- History-taking and physical examination
- Hands-on skills and competency training on various patient population
- Performance of an Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) on a standardized patient
- Documentation systems used by nurse practitioners
- Group case studies and presentation
- National boards review
- Content review on adult/gero, peds, and women's health populations
- Male and female gender-specific exams
- Procedures workshop: wound management, suturing, x-ray and EKG interpretation
On-Site Intensive Information
- Students in the APRN tracks will attend On-site Intensives in the following courses:
- OSI 1 – NURS 663A, NURS 679, NURS 686, NURS 696
- OSI 2 – NURS 668L-B, NURS 682L-B
- Note that attendance to the On-site Intensives is mandatory. Failure to attend to these On-site Intensives will result in failure from the course.
