Zachary M., a current pharmacy technician student at American Career College-Ontario, is on the brink of embarking on a new career path after spending 13 years in the security sector.
“It was a fun job, but I knew it was time for a change," Zachary reflected. "I explored various options and found pharmacy technician to be the most appealing."
His transition from security to healthcare was fueled by a desire for a dynamic and fulfilling career, with the potential for career growth in both knowledge and scope of practice.
"Healthcare presented an opportunity for constant learning and making a tangible difference in people's lives," Zachary explains. “If you want to help people and work in healthcare, this is a great place to do it. ACC will help you to help others.”
Since joining ACC in October 2023, Zachary has been immersed in a transformative learning experience.
"The camaraderie among students and the unwavering support from instructors have made my journey truly enriching," he shares. “They just make the learning environment fun.”
Zachary praised the engaging teaching methods employed by his instructors, highlighting interactive activities like Kahoots and Quizlets that enhance learning. While the accelerated program posed its challenges, Zachary appreciated its pace, which prevents complacency and fosters continuous growth.
"It's fast-paced, but it keeps you on your toes," he remarks.
Looking ahead, Zachary is eager to dive into the real-world experiences that await him as a pharmacy technician. He expressed enthusiasm for roles involving IV preparation, recognizing the importance of precision and adherence to strict protocols in ensuring patient safety.
As Zachary approached the culmination of his program, he offered advice to aspiring students.
"Give it a chance," he urged. "Whether pharmacy technician is your calling or not, ACC offers a range of programs to explore in the healthcare sector. One of them will be right for you.”
