Rudy’s journey in the medical field has been shaped by many influences, but none more profound than the loss of a classmate. What started as an interest in healthcare turned into a determined mission to make a difference.
Before enrolling in the Medical Assistant (MA) program at ACC, Rudy was on a different academic path at UCR, studying biology. His goal was always to continue in the medical field, but a personal tragedy solidified his commitment.
"My parents and my friends were a heavy influence," he recalled. "They wanted me to help people, and they knew that being in the healthcare setting was more for me because I've always been someone who wanted to help people."
The loss of his classmate was a pivotal moment. It reinforced the importance of being in a profession where he could directly impact people’s lives. As he progressed in the MA program, Rudy found himself deeply engaged in hands-on learning and patient care, realizing how valuable this experience would be for his ultimate goal of becoming a Physician Assistant (PA).
"By doing MA, it gives me experience, the hours, and just practice in general so that I could then use it as a stepping stone and put it on my resume."
His time at ACC has not only provided technical skills but also strengthened his resolve to continue in the medical field. The program’s immersive nature, with constant instructor support, helped him feel prepared for the next steps in his journey.
"I like how they're really hands-on… it really immerses you into like how an actual patient would be treated."
As Rudy prepares to move forward, his classmate’s memory remains a source of motivation, reminding him why he chose this path—to help others, just as he once wished he could have helped his friend.
