Graduation day was an emotional milestone for Jazlyn P.
“I never thought I could make it this far,” she said, standing proudly in her cap and gown at Toyota Arena. “I had a child at an early age, and I didn’t know where my life was going. But I made it through — I’m here, I’m graduating, and I’m proud of myself.”
A medical assistant graduate from the Los Angeles campus of American Career College, Jazlyn’s journey reflects ACC’s mission of empowerment through education. Her motivation? Her daughter.
“She was watching me. I had to better myself,” Jazlyn explained. “Now, she says she wants to be a doctor. I know I’ve done something right.”
ACC’s accelerated structure and faculty mentorship played a big role in her success.
“My teacher was so open — there were no stupid questions,” Jazlyn said. “I felt like a nerd, in a good way.”
Hands-on training, like learning to draw blood, helped Jazlyn build practical skills — and confidence.
“I was scared at first, but I did it,” she said.
Jazlyn’s family has deep ties to ACC — her sister is an alum — and she credits the school, her instructors, and her “village” of support for helping her reach this milestone. Now working in the medical field, Jazlyn plans to return to ACC in two years to pursue her dream of becoming a registered nurse.
To future students, her message is simple and powerful: “Don’t stop your dreams for anyone. If you dream it, you can achieve it.”
